Abstract: The Euler-Bernoulli beam equation plays a very important role in various engineering applications. It is a parabolic differential equation of fourth-order which describes the transverse displacement of a beam. In this paper, a fourth-order compact finite difference method is developed to solve numerically this equation. First, the approximation by fourth-order compact finite difference is applied for the spatial derivative, secondly, the Crank-Nicolson approximation of order two is applied to the obtained temporal differential system.
